Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, department of Chemistry [FAU]

The Chemistry department at the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg is one of nine in Germany with an impact deemed ’excellent’ by the national Wissenschaftsrat in its 2008 research ranking. The scientific environment at FAU is particularly strong in natural sciences and engineering. One emphasis is put on materials research as a common effort by the departments of chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, and materials engineering. Correspondingly, the FAU now hosts the interdisciplinary national excellence cluster ’Engineering of Advanced Materials’.

The research team of Prof. Bachmann specializes on the development of original methods towards the preparation of complex nanostructures ordered by self-organization phenomena and with well-defined geometry, in particular by combining nanoporous materials, electrodeposition and advanced Atomic Layer Deposition.

This team will lead the synthetic effort. Its S&T effort will be on the definition of bits following various routes, and on the creation of the read/write elements.
