SOLEIL is the French center for synchrotron radiation . It is funded and managed by French research agencies CNRS and CEA. Operation started in 2007 with 12 beamlines, reaching now round 25. SOLEIL is both a large-scale instrument serving the national and European scientific community and a research laboratory developing its own topics. Beam stability is excellent, a key point for the implementation of microscopy.
M3d will be supported by the Hermes beamline, due to open to users in 2013, and its complementary implementation of high-resolution magnetic microscopies : XMCD-PEEM for surface sensitivity and XMCD-TXM for bulk sensitivity.
